Java Jazz Festival is one of the largest music events in Indonesia. This year the prestigious event involved around 1000 performers in its 3 days festivities (3.-5. March 2006) with a total of 16 stages. DPA Microphones' distributor in Indonesia, La Mesa, took the opportunity to participate in this special event by showcasing Digidesign Venue with Kling & Frietag speakers, and an assortment of DPA microphones. La Mesa supported one of the music halls in Jakarta Hilton Convention Center where the festival took place. Among the performers on their stage were Bob James & The Angels of Shanghai, Hiromi Euhara, Ad Colen trio, Daniel Sahuleka, Tetsuo Sakurai, Chiara Civello, Vinni Valentino, Daniela Schacher, Elfa’s Big Band, and more.

"The Java Jazz festival was fully supported by the government to prove that Indonesia, specially the city of Jakarta, is still safe and capable to host an international event", says chief engineer and owner, Didi Kartanegara, " We were obligated to make this a successful event, so we provided all the best equipment that we could supply. The main objective towards La Mesa's sponsorship on this event was to record the whole performance. All of the critical recordings were captured with DPA microphones.
We used a pair of DPA 4011s for drum overhead on most of the setup. These microphones provide a great overall mixing. Ken Freeman, the sound engineer for Bob James used a pair of DPA 4023 Bob’s piano which was a Yamaha CF3 concert master series. These DPA 4023 were mounted on the stereo ORTF kit, and captured the sound of this U$ 150.000 piano with absolute clarity. The 4060 series miniature microphone were used for string instruments. Many of the sound engineers who came to choose from our microphone collection, picked DPA for their band performance, because they know the result will be great, and there was no question about the quality. It’s just that simple, no question asked."
"This assembly hall could fit more than 1250 audiences, and many of them commented that the overall sound system was among the best throughout the festival. We did not blast the sound system but rather set the SPL at an enjoyable level, contrarily to the other halls that tried to be recognized as being the loudest. When great world class musicians is combined with great equipment, the result is just fantastic."
